Course Overview


Graduate Certificate in Psychoanalytic Therapy course is our professional training program to equip you with the necessary knowledge and skills to apply Psychoanalytic Therapy techniques. We focus equally rigorously on theory as we do practical application. We give our graduates the skills and materials to put their training to use right away and create sustainable work for themselves in the world. Discover how psychoanalysis was developed by Sigmund Freud and continues to evolve with those who have come after him. You’ll learn about the studies undertaken to prove its effectiveness, how it is used to help clients, and the qualities and training needed to become a professional Psychoanalyst. You will also learn methods of application, gain competence for psychoanalytical psychotherapy. Learning Outcome:

  • From the course, you will first learn about psychotherapy and the differences between this and similar practices.You’ll explore the common elements of psychotherapy and the various ways it can help clients in either one-to-one, couples or group therapy settings and how the clients themselves can get the most from their sessions.
  • You will also learn what the most common forms of psychotherapy are and the differences between their approaches.
  • The course focusses on psychoanalysis - a method of psychotherapy that places significant emphasis on the contents of the unconscious mind.
  • You will discover what psychoanalysis is and how the practice is used to help clients solve their psychological and emotional problems.
  • You will gain competence in the application and practice of psychoanalytical psychotherapy.

Who is this Course for?


This course is designed for aspiring private practitioners or any practitioners in the area of psychology, psychotherapy, counselling or coaching. Do you want to start your practice and you are well equipped with the various theories for practice but have no confident in launching your practice? This course is for you. We will handhold* you until you are comfortable in practicing on your own. Should the programme be inadequate, learners are welcomed to subscribe to our Applied Therapy Skills and Mentorship programme to continue with 1-on-1 coaching.




Curriculum


Module 1: Introduction to Mental Health and Community Wellbeing In this module we focus on the common mental health or community wellbeing issues that would benefit from positive psychology intervention and how to identify symptoms and behaviors. Content covered: Introduction to mental health. Mood disorders. Personality disorders. Relationship issues. Career and professional issues. Personal performance issues. Module 2: Psychodynamic This course is designed to provide an introduction to psychoanalytic theory in general, and to Karen Horney’s theory in particular, and to help students become aware of unconscious dynamics and character structure. Lectures and clinical workshops are employed. Module 3: Clinical Assessment This course is designed to provide a grasp of the fundamentals of diagnosis and evaluation for treatment modalities. Material is presented from both a psychiatric and psychoanalytic perspective. The format combines lectures and clinical material. Module 4: Human Development The purpose of this course is to begin to familiarize students with various theories of human development. The emphasis is on how issues in development impact on psychopathology and health. Module 5: Psychoanalytic Technique The purpose of this course is to help students learn some of the underlying philosophies of treatment and the basic principles and techniques that evolve out of these. The emphasis is on the application of these techniques to students’ work with their patients. Module 6: The Psychotherapeutic Relationship The therapeutic relationship is a key element in the psychotherapeutic process. This course focuses on the beginning connection between patient and therapist and covers the process of identifying and utilizing transference and counter-transference phenomena. There is class participation with the presentation of case material. Module 7: Countertransference and Termination This course is organized for the discussion of practical clinical issues and the consolidation of material previously covered. Module 8: Technique: Dream Interpretation This course addresses the evolution of psychoanalytic dream theory and practice after Freud’s “The Interpretation of Dreams”. The module reinforces the central technique of free association in working with dreams (and generally) in psychoanalytic treatment. This module explores the uniquely catalytic role of dreams in facilitating work with developmental issues and their recapitulation within the treatment. This module examines important overlaps between themes relived in the psychoanalytic treatment situation and conflicts evident between sleeping/forgetting vs. dreaming/awakening. This module places working with dreams in the context of the therapeutic alliance. Psychoanalytic dream work is shown to extend beyond content interpretation to its role in fostering the psychoanalytic therapeutic dyad. This module addresses the role of changing conceptual models on interpretive modes of working with dreams. Candidates will be encouraged to discuss dreams from their own case material.

The cost of this programme is $1,388 (include material cost in e-format). And a $100 registration fee.

This course is provided by and certified by Psychology Resource Center (Ltd.) and Rogerian Psychology Singapore. Complementary Medical Association UK (CMA UK) 3. Continuing Professional Development Certification Service UK (CPD UK) - Pending




Requirements


1. 4 GCE O-Level pass or equivalent (Including English); or 2. NITEC or Higher NITEC; or 3. Mature candidates (≥ 30 years old with min. 8 years work experience) or 4. Other private or foreign qualifications will be assessed on a case-by-case basis




Sample Certificate


**For graduates before APACS and CPD audit completes, you will receive a revise certificate that reflects recognition from Association of Psychotherapists and Counsellors Singapore (APACS) and Continuing Professional Development Accreditation Service UK (CPD UK) once the audit completes**
